Vintage 1970s round sterling silver locket featuring ornate engraved flourishes. This stunning locket is large in size with a scalloped edge, the piece opens from the top with the hinge at the bottom. On the inside of the locket there are two areas where pictures can be placed.
The locket has a number of marks indicating the piece was hallmarked in 1978 in Birmingham, England by the maker DH.
HISTORY
The locket has a long rich history, during the earlier centuries, they were used to carry good luck charms, mementoes, hair, powder and even poison. The locket secured its romantic status during the Victorian era, it became the most mysterious and alluring pieces of jewellery. Only the wearer knows what secrets lie within the locket. It was to be the ultimate love token. Pictures held in lockets were originally miniature portraits, these were gradually replaced with photographs.
